Lockable
Plugs / Sockets
'It's
all very well having a metering system like METERMAID
but what's to stop boatowners by-passing the meter and
just plugging in their own cable?', we hear you say.
Many
marina operators are lucky enough to be able to rely
on their customers' trust and honesty when it comes
to paying for their electricity. Once issued with a
METERMAID, the vast majority of boatowners use
it correctly. In our experience we have found that boatowners
LIKE METERMAID and they much prefer to pay only
for what they know they have used. For some however,
the temptation to try and get something for nothing
by using an unmetered lead is just too great. For the
not-so-lucky marina operator, this can be a real problem.
However
if you fall into this category, there are a number of
very practical solutions you might consider.
The
easiest and least time-consuming is to fit a non-standard
socket on the pontoon outlet and a corresponding non-standard
plug on the input side of METERMAID. Although
we know boating folk to be extremely resourceful, this
approach tends to stop them in their tracks long enough
for the inclination to outwit the system to go away!
Other
options include physically locking off the electricity
supply with either a stainless steel socket lock or
a lockable plug and socket as pictured above. With the
aid of a simple padlock this system allows METERMAID
to be locked in place to avoid unauthorised removal.
Additionally, the socket outlet can be locked off when
not in use to prevent unauthorised access to the electricity
supply.
Simple
but effective!
